About

My wine journey started with Sutter Home White Zinfandel.  It was the 1980s.  I think it was $1.99 a bottle.  Drank it with spicy sausages I bought at a SoCal deli.

Later came influences like Gourmet magazine, some small but well-curated wine merchants, lots of dinner parties at great restaurants, and years of parties and travel with choirs under my direction.  Eventually, I got serious and went to wine school.

Author/importer Kermit Lynch called it the “wine route.”  Once on it, that “route” leads us to interesting people, wine styles, and vineyards near and far. This journal of my path through the wine world is an effort to share some things that may be useful and interesting as you explore on your own.

I am a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) and have a broad background in non-profit communications and the arts, having spent four decades conducting choirs and orchestras. I studied journalistic writing through UCLA Extension and have traveled to wine regions around the world. Additional wine studies include the Level Two award from the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) and the French Wine Scholar curriculum. My writing appears frequently in the Oregon Wine Press, and I live at the north end of Oregon’s beautiful Willamette Valley.

Greg Norton is a freelance writer with a broad background in non-profit communications and the arts. He studied journalistic writing through the UCLA Extension and has traveled to wine regions around the world. Greg is a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) and received the level two award from the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET).
